London Cinema History
The oldest purpose built cinema in London is thought to be The Phoenix Cinema on Great North Road, East Finchley.
Originally opened in 1910 as the East Finchley Picturedome, the cinema has been serving film enthusiasts continuously throughout it's history of almost 100 years.
The Phoenix Cinema is also one of the few places in the UK where you can watch a film while enjoying an alcoholic drink. In many ways, this cinema still provides a traditional movie-watching experience, complete with ice creams and home-made cakes!
The Electric Cinema in Notting Hill is a rival to the title of being London's oldest purpose-built cinema (we think that someone needs to step in and referee!). It's recently been refurbished, meaning that you can now relax in the plush seats, put your feet up on a foot-stall, while placing your food and drink selection on the table by your side.
History and luxury - welcome to the cinemas of London.
